Sweet Holidays!
The holidays are upon us and we're eager to get in the kitchen and make all of our favorite things. Sugar cookies are a holiday staple loved by almost all and we've found a recipe for Simply Splendid Sugar Cookies that we can't resist sharing! These would be a wonderful addition to any holiday get-together or can be left as treats for Santa! And our holiday entertaining items add your style to your holiday parties!
1. Chevron Holiday Wine Tag 2. Plaid Red & Teal Small Tray 3. Beverage Napkin with Icon 4. Wreath Platter 5. Bursts Teal Square Tray 6. Black Watch Plaid Coasters 7. Gingerbread Plate 8. Cup with Icon Ornament
1 ½ cups confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon fine salt
1 large egg
1 ⅓ cups white whole-wheat flour, such as King Arthur
1 ⅓ cup unbleached all-purpose flour
White sugar sprinkles, for rolling
Preparation:
1. Arrange the racks in upper and lower thirds of the oven and preheat the oven to 375°F. Get out 2 large cookie sheets and line with parchment paper. Place some white sugar sprinkles in a small bowl.
2. Prepare dough: Cream the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the vanilla, baking soda and salt and beat at medium speed until incorporated. Add the egg and beat until incorporated. Add the flours and mix at low speed until blended, scraping down the bowl once or twice.
3. Scoop up enough dough to form into a 1-inch ball, rolling between the palms until smooth. Roll the dough ball in sugar sprinkles and then place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat, arranging a dozen coated dough balls evenly spaced on each sheet and then, using a drinking glass, press on dough balls to flatten to about 1/4 inch thick.
4. Bake cookies about 12 minutes, switching and rotating the pans half way through, until cookies are golden and somewhat firm to the touch. Transfer cookies with a metal spatula to racks and let cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.
For some more tips and the full version, see Epicurious' full recipe.

Charity Give Back!
We understand how important it is to give back to our community, so this year we're giving back! When a retailer reaches $1000 in sales with us this holiday season, Boatman Geller will make a one time donation of 10%, ($100) of that amount to a charity. Our retailers can choose one of our charities of choice, or they can choose a different charity that they would like to support. Orders being placed now count towards their $1000 sales total. Click here to find a retailer and help us give back!

Lobster Love!
Summer is here and it's the perfect time to start making all of our seasonal favorites. That's why when we saw this lobster roll recipe from Gilt Taste, we couldn't help but share it! Lobster rolls are a great party food because you can make them ahead of time. And if you're up for the task of making your own rolls, our lobster themed products are the perfect addition for your seaside-themed summer soiree!
1. Stripe Lobster Platter 2. Lobster Flat Card 3. Crest Lobster Square Tray 4. Lobster Flat Card
5. Lobsters Red Large Flat Card 6. Crest Lobster Placemat 7. Lobster Stripe Plate
Lobster Rolls
Serves 2
2 lobsters, 1¼ pounds each.
3-4 tablespoons homemade mayonnaise (more if you prefer, but I like my rolls to be mostly lobster)
2 teaspoons finely chopped red onion
½ rib celery, chopped
A few drops of lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
2 Pepperidge Farm top-split hot dog buns
Cook, chill, and shell the lobsters: Bring a large pot of heavily-salted water to a boil over high heat. Submerge the lobsters and cook for 10 minutes, then place the lobsters at once in ice water to stop the cooking. Drain well. Remove all the meat from the lobster and chop into ½-inch pieces, reserving the tomalley and the roe in a small bowl.
Dress the lobster: Stir the tomalley and roe into the mayonnaise, and dress the lobster meat with it. Add celery, onion, lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste. Store in the refrigerator (it will last 2 days).
Butter and crisp buns: Just before serving, melt a pat of butter in a small saute pan over medium heat and toast the hot dog buns on one side. When they’re golden, remove them. Add the second pat of butter and toast the buns on the other side. Spoon the lobster salad into the buns and serve immediately.
Mayonnaise
This is more than you need. But it keeps for at least a week, and there’s something wonderful about knowing you have homemade mayonnaise on hand for sandwiches, tartar sauce and dressings.
Makes 2 cups
2 egg yolks
1 egg
1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar
1 teaspoon mustard
Pinch of salt
About 2 cups oil, at room temperature (not cold)
Crank the food processor: Put everything but the oil into a food processor and process until creamy, about 15 seconds. With the machine still running, slowly pour the oil into the machine until your mayonnaise is the consistency that you want.
For some more tips and the full version, see Ruth Reichl's recipe.

Introducing Julie Browning Bova Fine Paper & Gifts!
We are thrilled to announce the release of our new collaboration, Julie Browning Bova Fine Paper & Gifts! The new collection offers 11 products which have over 140 unique combinations that include a wide array of products and designs. Look for the collection this month at retailers and on Julie Browning Bova's website. We asked Jane Boatman Geller to share her thoughts with you regarding the collection. Here's what she had to say:
1. What made you feel that this collection with Julie Browning Bova was the right move for you?
Jane: Julie has such richness as an interior designer—all of that creativity and style was begging to be brought to the market in the paper and gift industry. We feel the JBB collection is very complimentary of the Boatman Geller look. Since we already have the production / wholesale end in place it was an easy fit.
2. Will you be infusing her designs into all your personalized product offerings?
Jane: We are launching the JBB line with those products that are the best fit for JBB's style and design. We are excited to be offering her designs on 11 different products to start.
3. What do you feel sets this apart from other collections?
Jane: JBB's designs have a sophistication and depth of style that is rarely seen in the paper and gift industry. The cornerstone of her designs is equestrian in nature which is a new niche in our industry. We feel the richness of the look speaks to an upscale lifestyle—whether or not horses are your passion!
4. Is there anything that you'd like to share about the development of the collection and the items you're introducing?
Jane: Julie's designs were presented to us in quite a finished format. They really were ready to be taken to the next step and polished for product. Julie's clear vision for her brand made for an almost effortless creation from concept to end product. Julie and I are both hoosiers at heart and feel passionately that good design isn't found only on the coasts—but right here in the midwest too!
5. What are you most excited about in terms of this launch?
Jane: Being able to offer such a lovely line of paper and gifts that we feel will be enthusiastically received by the Boatman Geller retailers across the country.

Giveaway! Win Birth Announcements!
Jane (Boatman Geller) is excited to introduce you to fellow entrepreneur, Devon Clement, a certified postpartum doula, new parent guide, and baby demystifier. Jane thinks so highly of Devon's advice for new parents (and parents to be) that she is offering a BG Birth Announcement Giveaway ($125 value) for one lucky winner! Click here to sign up for Devon's free Mini E-Book by Monday, May 14th and be entered to win. We will announce the winner here on Friday, June 1st.
Devon and BG teamed up to give you some advice...
People want to see your baby and you will not have the time, or wherewithal, to put your announcements together those first few days the baby is here! You'll want to use your limited free time to rest, shower, and snuggle your little one. 1. Create your announcement ahead of time. Choose the design, font, color and text. Go ahead and place your order with a BG retailer! You can even have proofs done beforehand to make sure that you are happy with your choices. Don't know yet if you are having a boy or girl? Design one of each and be truly prepared! 2. Pre-order your envelopes from Boatman Geller and get them addressed before the baby even comes – this way, all you'll have to do is stuff the envelopes with your gorgeous announcements. Or, ask your visitors to pitch in when they ask how they can help! 3. Contact BG when the baby arrives to fill in the name, vital statistics and submit that "oh so adorable" photo of your newborn! |
|
It can mean the world to have a knowledgeable, caring person to talk to, reach out to, ask questions of, and be reassured that everything is normal. Someone to take care of YOU so you can take care of your baby! Devon Clement acts as a coach, consultant, caregiver & confidence reinforcer for "frazzled 'rents" who want it all — starting with one good night's sleep. Her company, Mama's Best Friend gives new moms & dads foundational skills & emotional support to care for their babies (and themselves) — so they can stop freaking out, and start having fun! Meet your new BFF online at MamasBestFriend.com, and on Twitter at @mamasbestfriend. |

Nantucket vs. Manhattan - A Hometown Super Bowl
I jest! But really, this is the recipe for my perfect Super Bowl Experience. New England Patriots vs. NY Giants. Teams from two of my most favorite places. Two powerhouse teams - therefore no underdog to worry and fret about (that's a big issue with me - drives Greg nuts!) And last but not least, it is right here in my hometown!!
I was born and raised in Indianapolis - then set out after college to split the next 14 years between Manhattan and then Seattle. To see my hometown transformed into a Super Stage has been fascinating and exciting. The festivities kicked off last weekend and have been going full steam ahead this week. Greg spent last Saturday with the kids at the NFL experience (amazing) and with the unusually warm weather we loaded the kids up in the car and headed downtown last night to walk the Super Bowl Village. The zipline is pretty amazing - see the video below!
It was so fun to see the party tents still being set up for all the VIP celeb parties this weekend. It had sort of a pre-trade show vibe to it! Greg and I are going to parties Friday and Saturday nights so I will be sure to tweet any celeb sightings!
There is a possibility that we may even go to the game... beer + celebrity watching + Madonna at half time = Super Fun!
How are you spending Super Bowl Weekend?!
The zip line (from standing on the ground below - no ride for me!)

So Sweet!
We love the practice of little ones giving Valentine's Day exchange cards out to their classmates and the thought of boxes being overstuffed with small tokens of sweetness! We're also really excited to give you a peek at our new 2012 designs for exchange cards and invitations! If you're hosting a party, you'll find the invitations are a must, but the exchange cards make great tags for favors or bags of candy for guests! Click here to find a Boatman Geller retailer.
